The word Reiki (pronounced "ray-kee") is comprised of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom" and Ki which is "life force energy". So, Reiki is divine life force energy, a spiritually guided energy which comes through (not from) the practitioner. Reiki addresses healing needs at the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. The practitioner, serving as a clear channel, holds their hands above the client, and Reiki travels to the areas where the client's energy is the most imbalanced. Reiki balances our energy fields (auras) and energy centers (chakras). It knows where the client most needs support, and it keeps working even after the session.
Reiki is not a religion and has no doctrine. It is a spiritual practice that promotes peace, health, and compassion. While it does not replace traditional medical treatment, Reiki can be used as a complementary therapy. It comes from the God-consciousness, so it can not harm: Reiki is always for the client's greatest and highest good.
Reiki is excellent for a variety of physical, spiritual, and emotional ailments:
What to expect in a Reiki session:
Following a brief intake session, the client lies, fully clothed, on a massage table (Reiki can be given to a seated client as well). The practitioner does a brief meditation to call in Reiki, then holds his or her hands over the client's body at key points to deliver the healing energy. Some clients fall asleep, but all report feeling relaxed. A typical session will last 90 minutes, including a time at the end to discuss the client's experiences.
Always look for a Reiki practitioner who strictly adheres to a Code of Ethics. Catherine's practice follows those outlined by The International Center for Reiki Training: http://www.reikimembership.com/Code_of_Ethics.aspx#ethics
